  • Is there a Manhattan Income Tax?

Just curious, for a friend who's thinking on buying an apartment and moving to Manhattan, New York. I know there's a NYC personal income tax, but what about specific boroughs like Manhattan?

It's the richest borough, are there any special income taxes for just Manhattan?

    Thank you!

No, there is no Manhattan city tax. Manhattan does not have its own tax jurisdiction. Taxation for all five NYC boroughs is done by the NYC Department of Finance.

With that said, there definitely is a NYC personal income tax, and if you run a small business there is also the UBT (Unincorporated Business Tax) which is effectively a second layer of personal income taxes by the city.

UBT only applies on pass-through business, which ironically by definition shouldn't be taxed at the entity level to begin with!
My whole family is filing taxes now, and this is the first time I've heard of the Unincorporated Business Tax, or UBT, which seems to be a unique double local
